Company history[ edit ] Zippo plant, c. Blaisdell founded Zippo Manufacturing Company in , and produced the first Zippo lighter in early , being inspired by an Austrian cigarette lighter of similar design made by IMCO. While the Zippo Manufacturing Company never had an official contract with the military, soldiers and armed forces personnel insisted that base exchange BX and post exchange PX stores carry this sought-after lighter. These lighters are now sought after collector’s items and popular souvenirs for visitors to Vietnam. The basic mechanism of the Zippo lighter has remained unchanged, but they developed into a popular fashion accessory, with a huge variety of artistic designs produced. These lighters are fueled with butane. The museum also contains an enormous collection of Case knives. Since the Zippo company’s 60th anniversary in , annual editions have been produced for Zippo collectors.

I made a short video below to demo why I think road tubeless is the way forward. In my opinion, early road tubeless tire makers engineered out of an abundance of caution, perhaps because of the high pressures in road.

But the clincher rims, which were in development for four years, introduce an aerodynamic concept that — if the wheels perform as advertised — should eventually trickle down to mortal income levels. Basically, every deep-section rim is a compromise between straight-on aerodynamics and side forces. Zipp engineers say SawTooth makes for much less of a trade off between the two.
At the unveiling of the s in London Wednesday night, Zipp engineers repeatedly turned to the idea of biomimicry, an old concept of approaching engineering problems by looking to how nature has solved them. Velcro, based on seed burrs, is an example. The concept has gained traction in recent years as advances in science and manufacturing have led to more complex executions things like sharkskin-inspired swimsuits. For the , Zipp looked to humpback whales and, specifically, the lumps on the leading edges of their pectoral fins.
Called tubercles , these protrusions make humpbacks more agile by keeping water attached to their flippers when they turn. Tubercles keep the water attached as it flows past. Aircraft designers have known about these benefits for years. These pulses are a result of the wheel dumping wind that has built up on the side of the rim.
The s still have to dump air, but, according to Zipp, the pulses are smaller and more frequent.

Zipp Wheels Cycling Products for Sale. Zipp wheels are made by a company officially known as Zipp Speed Weaponry. It was founded in and started by releasing a carbon fibre disc wheel. Today it makes a wide range of wheels that are built for one primary purpose – speed.
Well, not just a new wheel, but a new generation of wheel. It represents as big a departure from existing technology and know-how as Firecrest did when it was first introduced more than five years ago. What makes this rim different is easily apparent to the eye. The handling piece was a matter of low-frequency vortex shedding. This new sawtooth shape performs the same sort of function; in creating turbulence at the spoke bed, the passing airflow attaches better and releases better.
Consider that often how CFD testing is doing is that an engineer will often set up a test at the end of the work day and then head home. Real world wind-tunnel testing was similarly gargantuan, with a whopping hours spent in the wind tunnel. The sawtooth shape results in a rim that varies between 53 and 58mm of depth. The ABLC dimples have changed shape—yet again—and are now hexagonal, a development they are calling Hexfin.
For the record, I have not had the opportunity to ride the wheels, yet. When it comes to deep-section carbon wheels in windy circumstances, especially gusty ones, only Enve rivals Zipp for the handling title. Without Enve as a competitor, Zipp would be peerless for carbon wheel performance. These wheels are the most challenging to produce Zipp has ever offered.

After one ride on a hilly course, or one wheel swap, you will understand why we chose this path. No one will want to go back to their rim-brake equipped tri bike after trying this bike. Changing from training to race wheels or aluminum to carbon can be done in minutes without any drama.
Carbon wheels become a lot easier to use year-round with discs.

This film’s sole purpose is to cram as much stuntwork humanly possible into 89 minutes. The goons hang Billy Ray upside-down in a traveling helicopter to try to get him to reveal where he hid a fortune in diamonds that he stole from Navarro, while Carmen follows the helicopter in her Porche. The goons accidentally drop Billy Ray in a lake, so Carmen picks him up, the goons steal a car and the chase is on Why the goons didn’t just chase them in the helicopter is a question better left unasked.
Bil ly Ray obliquely reveals to Carmen the location of the diamonds just before the goons shoot him dead.

The snow-clearing operation is just the latest attention city leaders have lavished on cycling, from a growing web of bike lanes to the nation’s second largest shared network of grab-and-go bicycles stationed all over town. But it also spotlights questions that have been raised here, a city wrestling with deep financial problems, and across the country. Who is paying for all this bicycle upkeep? And shouldn’t bicyclists be kicking in themselves?
Bike-friendly bloggers retorted that maybe pedestrians ought to be charged a shoe tax to use the sidewalks. What do you do to enforce this? Chicago is by no means the only place across the U. This year, it was Georgia, Oregon, Washington and Vermont. The Oregon legislation, which failed, would even have applied to children. Everything is on the table,” he said. It’s not a new idea.

I loved the counterintuitive idea — a fatter wheel equals a more aerodynamic wheel. Also, of course, with a wider clincher rim, a wider surface of tire is actually touching the road. HED Jet 6 wheels — look fast even at rest with a fully loaded bike! They “woosh” as you ride, and they are very fast even in crosswinds. After the initial break-in period, I have tried to save them mostly for events when I will really benefit from their aerodynamic advantages.
But even so, after a few years wear on the braking surfaces is very noticeable, the carbon fairing around one valve hole is torn, and there is serious scoring on soft, lightweight aluminum of the rear cassette body — to the point where I struggle to get a cassette on or off, and strongly favor using the outrageously expensive, very nice SRAM one-piece Powerdome cassette now with this cassette body.
Zipp’s flagship wheel for is the NSW. The radically-shaped rim was developed using biomimicry, which models structures commonly seen in biological shapes and processes. In this case, Zipp based the alternating-height rim profile, called SawTooth, on the fins of humpback whales.
By Reuben Robestier Your Zippo isn’t lighting. You strike the flint wheel, but nothing happens. As far as you know, nothing is broken or damaged. Nothing appears to be wrong with this lighter, but there’s a problem. You don’t really want to mail your beloved lighter back to the manufacturer: These simple solutions will help you fix most problems with your Zippo lighter. Unless there’s a larger problem, you should have your lighter working again in just a few moments.
Try these fixes before you contact Zippo. First, make sure that the Zippo has enough lighter fluid. Even if you just added some a few days ago, it’s worth checking again. This is particularly important if you’ve left your Zippo alone for a few weeks or longer. The lighter fluid evaporates even when you aren’t using the lighter.

While removing the cassette from the Aksiums, I noticed 2 spacers beneath it, and transferred both to the new hub of my Carbone SLs. Everything seems to fit fine, and I’ve tested my shifting on a bike stand, but not ridden outside yet due to weather. The new wheelset came with only one spacer – which was the exact same size as one of two residing on the older wheelset hub. My questions pertain to the second, thinner spacer found on the older wheelset hub.
As I understand it, the first thicker spacer is proprietary to Mavic, and lends the M10 hub additional compatibility with Campagnolo cassettes as well as Shimano. For it to mate with 8 or 9-speed Shimano cassettes correctly, the 2mm? The speed Shimano cassettes are slightly narrower still, and require an additional spacer of 1mm in thickness. The sizing of these spacers is slightly confusing. Could anyone clear this up for me?
I admit that my measuring technique was pretty rudimentary; using a cheap plastic ruler instead of calipers, so perhaps that is part of the problem.

Technically Bebop is this to Rocksteady, despite their mutations. Also Marik to Landor. Some of the mutations in the series are quite disgusting. The varying quality of the animation doesn’t help it. Kraang, a non-mutagen example, especially in the first season. He’s a bubbling, pulsating, wet, glistening, slimy blob of brains that burbles, groans and slurps with every motion.

In this case, the PR stands for Performance Recreation. And of the saddles within that rubric, this is the one with the most padding. It has a foam and gel padding that gets the series rating from ISM, which basically means it is the most padded saddle in their stable. Add to that the fact it is mm at its widest point, and you have a great saddle for anyone riding in an upright position that wants lots of support. It is extremely important, though, that you set it up properly on your bike, otherwise, you will be missing out on all of the pressure relieving benefits.
The two pronged cutout is supposed to take away any pressure from your genital area.

That was more than million Zippo lighters ago. Zippo introduced its own lighter collectors’ club, Zippo Click, in , logging over members in the first three years. Zippo Click provides an opportunity for serious and casual collectors alike to share their interest in Zippo lighters. For many, collecting Zippo lighters has become a hobby, and for some, it has even become a business.
In light of the ever-growing international interest in the Zippo windproof lighter, we are pleased to present this guide as an introduction to the novice lighter collector. This is a place to start.
Our wheels are the gold standard for performance for good reason. At each rim depth we offer, our wheels provide the greatest aerodynamic advantage on the market. 30 Course.
US Raleighs from the East: Raleigh USA There was a time in America when all Raleighs – except specially ordered Team Replicas not to be confused with the Team USA, an mid-level marketing tool which now exists in the present day to amuse greedy internet “antique” dealers and Craigslisters – were made in Japan or Taiwan. In comparison to their English counterparts of the time – which were often brazed together with all the loving care of a British Leyland unionist – the Raleighs from the East were a notable step up, if a bit soulless behind the handlebar though a highly subjective point.
Unfortunately, the Raleigh USA venture will forever be known as having been a venture involving the management of the subsidiary by the American bicycle manufacturer, Huffy. If you’ve ever been within 20 feet of an average Huffy, you’ll need not have to ask why this fact continues to tarnish the image and aura surrounding the marquee. But for whatever these bikes lacked in soul or exalted managerial history, they made up for in sheer flashiness. Though the American lineup had been completely transitioned to Raleigh USA by , it wasn’t until that Raleigh USA’s top four roadbike offerings excluding the Team Replicas took on a look that defies all visions of “British restraint.
The brand gradually transitioned into Technium bonded aluminum frames, and thus traditional lugged steel frames died their first death under the Raleigh badge. The Raleigh Competition white and Super Course blue shown here are not quite representative of their as-delivered, factory appearance. Both have had their groupsets replaced with more exiting – or stylistically complementary – fare. There are minor frame production differences between early models and later models, including the seattube band colors and blank fork crowns vs.
These production variances are even visible above; the Competition being the earlier ’84, and the Super Course the later. Taiwanese production entered somewhere in late too, adding additional variations to the preexisting differences already existing between the Japanese models. Of note, American Team models manufactured in England received the same gaudy lettering attack as their Japanese and Taiwanese cousins, as seen on this Team frame:
